some time off following his ninth-place finish in last
weekend's $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic. He is settled in
at a Roswell training center facility (Double
Eagle Training Center) owned by Mark Allen, who races
Mine That Bird in partnership with Dr. Leonard Blach (Buena
Suerte Equine).

O’Brien turns to Mine That Bird in battle with
NBC January 22, 2010 - Conan O’Brien, marching toward his very public
divorce from NBC and The Tonight Show, incorporated Mine That Bird,
or at least the name of the 2009 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner, in a
sketch on Thursday. O’Brien presented a chestnut horse as Mine That Bird, ensconced in a
“mink Snuggie,” at about the 17:45 point in the show. Mine That Bird
is a bay.

THAT BIRD NOMINATED for 2009 Eclipse Award
January
6, 2010 - Mine That Bird was revealed Wednesday as one of
the finalists in the Three-Year-Old Male Category by the
National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), National
Turf Writers Association (NTWA) and Daily Racing Form (DRF),
the three presenting organizations of the Eclipse Awards. The 39th Eclipse Awards ceremony will be held Monday,
January 18 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Three-Year-Old Male: Mine That Bird, Quality Road, Summer
Bird The Eclipse Awards are presented by the NTRA, the
National Turf Writers Association and Daily Racing Form in
recognition of excellence in Thoroughbred racing. Eclipse Awards are bestowed upon horses and individuals
whose outstanding achievements have earned them the title of
Champion in their respective categories.
Awards also are given to recognize members of the media for
outstanding coverage of thoroughbred racing. |

Mine That Bird Honored In Style Santa Fe, NM (February 12, 2010) – On Friday, Rep. Candy Spence
Ezzell (Chaves), dressed in a black cowboy hat, boots, and tuxedo
pantsuit, recognized Mine That Bird as, “New Mexico
Horse of the Year for 2009.” The memorial passed the
New Mexico House of Representatives unanimously by a vote of 70-0.

AWARD ARCADIA, Calif. (Feb. 20, 2010)—Two-time Kentucky
Derby winning jockey Calvin Borel has been selected by a vote of his
peers as the 2010 winner of the Santa Anita George Woolf Memorial
Jockey Award. Borel’s Woolf victory was announced live on HRTV from
the Fair Grounds in New Orleans by retired Hall of Fame jockey and
current HRTV analyst Gary Stevens. Stevens won the Woolf Award
himself in 1996.
